Not really

Mr. Sale believes people are starting to seriously consider secession as a political option.

It is heartening that at last, thanks to a few off-the-cuff remarks by Texas governor Rick Perry on “tea-party” day, people are starting to talk about secession in these not-very-United States, and for the most part taking the concept seriously.

I think he's hopelessly optimistic.

When there are articles of secession pending on the floor of some state's legislature, then I'll agree that it is being seriously considered. Until then, it's all just bluff and bluster. Just like the Tea Parties.
